It's Shrektacular!

This May, OPI is "ogre-joyed" to tie in with the DreamWorks Animation theatrical release of Shrek Forever After!  I've created six new Brights by OPI Nail Lacquer shades that suit the main characters perfectly, with names to match:  Funky Donkey   (what could be more fun than this dark purple?); What's with the Cattitude? (a moody light blue that's really a pussycat); Rumple's Wiggin' (and this lavender is "hair" to stay!); Who the Shrek Are You? (a brilliant green that stands up for itself); Ogre-the-Top Blue (the biggest, bestest bright blue ever!); and Fiercely Fiona (don't mess wtih this empowered light green). Now if only I could find some green movie popcorn ...

No Makeup Required

I have to applaud Jessica Simpson for doing what most women would never even consider -- being on the cover of Marie Claire magazine WITHOUT ANY MAKEUP. You  have to hand it to her. She's been put under the microscope for her appearance nonstop, and now has taken the offensive, showing the world that she's fine with who she is and what she looks like.  "I don't have anything to prove anymore," she tells the mag. "What other people think of me is not my business." For those of us who shy away from even running out for the proverbial quart of milk without mascara and lipstick, Jessica's cover says a lot.  I'm sure she doesn't plan to shun cosmetics in public, but she's showing us all that sometimes enough is enough.  And none is just fine.

Kickin' It Khaki

Always a classic, now a this-season's-hot-pick, khaki is making its appearance in closets everywhere this spring. Khaki was all over the designer runways, in cropped trench coats (so divine), shirts, dresses, sexy, slouchy trousers, and more.  Ranging in color from warm tan to cool taupe to neutrals in between, khaki is kicking it in sexy new incarnations (try rolled-up trousers with high-heeled, strappy sandals) and manages to be both casual and polished all at once. Another way to khaki?  Try it on nails in OPI's Over the Taupe, a marvelous mushroom shade that is chic, trendy, and so wearable.

Steel Magnolia

She was the designing woman who dared to voice her opinion, loudly and often.  A mix of elegance, beauty, intelligence, Southern grace, and talent, Dixie Carter, who passed away over the weekend, embodied many of the attributes of her "alter ego," Julia Sugarbaker, in the hit series Designing Women.  One of television's most memorable, most feminist, and most feminine characters ever written, Julia made us all proud to be women.  And Dixie made Julia who she was.  We'll miss her.

Pearls & Carats

Pearls made big news last week, as a pearl necklace encrusted with gemstones and purportedly belonging to an 18th century Chinese emperor, sold for a record amount at auction in Hong Kong.  The freshwater pearl strand sold for a staggering $8.7 million, the highest auction price ever paid for a piece of Imperial jewelry.  One reason, according to experts, is a newfound appreciation for the magnificent arts of China.  We couldn't agree more. A Breath of Fresh Hope

Every 2 1/2 minutes someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with lung cancer.  

Every 3 minutes someone dies from it. 

Lung cancer claims more lives than breast, prostate, colon, liver, kidney, and melanoma cancers -- COMBINED.

60% of new lung cancer victims are non-smokers. 

And there is currently no approved screening for early detection of lung cancer.  

This year, for a second time, OPI is offering Breathe Life -- a Nail Lacquer created exclusively to help the Lung Cancer Foundation of America in its efforts to raise funds to find a cure. The response to Breathe Life in 2009 was overwhelmingly positive, with those most affected by lung cancer feeling that they finally have a voice. All About the Pink

Some-bunny Loves Spring

Spring color is everywhere (at least here in LA where OPI is located) -- and I imagine it's coming to a place near you before too long.  Savvy girls already know that color is the word this season, from fashion to beauty to accessories.  Let the light and the bright in -- just in time for this week's Passover and Easter celebrations.
