In a recent blog,Today show style editor Bobbie Thomas writes about a Cornell University sorority which allegedly has a strict set of style guidelines that dictate its members' dress, makeup, accessories, etc. In my mind, these kinds of rigid rules don't allow for much, if any, individuality of style. And while the sorority and its leaders certainly have the right to come up with and enforce their style code, to me it sounds like the preferences of a few young women have taken over. The wonderful thing about fashion and style -- whether you are 18 or 81 -- is that it is supposed to be about you. You choose the looks, the colors, the pieces that fit your life, your budget, and your personality. And when you do, you'll find that looking like yourself is way more life-affirming than forcing yourself to meet someone else's idea of who you should be.
